Reena Saini Kallat | Visas to Happiness

Against a white sky, little sparrows, large crows, an eagle, a falcon fly in slow motion around, in front of, behind a line of electrical wires. In slow motion, the birds slowly settle down, resting atop the wires. Ever so subtly, the flocking birds begin to form shapes of letters. Time appears suspended as the letters become discernible and we read “Happiness Is Not A Station You Arrive At But A Manner of Travelling”.
In a flash, a sharp sound frightens the birds and they fly away, the phrase disintegrating into tiny fragments. The work reflects upon what happiness is, while also raising questions related to how we live our lives, how we engage with each other and the world around us.
