​Within the temple gates, a temporary construction functions as a pharmacy and herbarium of natural plants. It also acts as a site for learning and a meeting place for local inhabitants and visitors. Made of found materials and assembled in a semi-circular domed shape, the herbarium houses herbs, seeds and remedies, collected at the surroundings.

 

Public sessions discussing the characteristics of the various plants' species and their uses becomes a point of departure where local farmers recount stories and give us a peep into their everyday practices, concerns, vision and knowledge. Essence-Function initiates a dialogue between western scientific botanic classification and eastern spiritual doctrines, where both are challenged to develop a system to be transmitted.
